snnno store Up for bidding is a Vintage Gilbert & Sons Sundial compass. The heavy wooden box with green velvet inner lining measures 9inchX9inchX3.5inch. The base diameter is about 7.5inch. This sundial compass is in Excellent working conditions. The are No scratches on the glass cover and it appears crystal clear!! I have removed all thick dust while being mindful to keep it in its original state. Some rust on the brass frame should be able to removed using stain removing chemicals such as Brasso. Would be an interesting addition to any collectors. Basic features:1) Measures different scales, when kept open.2) Top compass consists of hinged plate that is calibrated in hours and another scale marks minutes, which can be set according to local latitude angle.3) Magnetic compass enables sundial to point north and sundial's vane casts a shadow and marks the local time.4) When not in use, can be made compact.5) Compass sits on 3 solid brass leveling screws.6) Can be used to calculate the time as well as teh orientation.
