-STYLE: Art Nouveau -TECHNIQUE: Manufacture Dust pressed clay tile using a mould & horsehead press- then burned- Decoration Relief molded majolica combined with low relief moulding Decorated with colored glazes. -COLORS: 4 -FACTORY: unknown tile maker . - England -DIMENSIONS: 6" x 6" -APROXIMATE DATE: ca 1900 The most beautiful of the quarter tiles, its design of abstract flowers is emblematic from the nature abstraction of the new style –Though it is English, this tile has much of the Belgian or French art nouveau wonderful colors. Stands out the subtility of some outlines, multiple lines in the stems and details in greenish blue. I found it pictured in Terence Locket book page 131 colour plate X - CONDITION: This tile is in perfect condition, no flaws or repairs exist. Cement on reverse was carefully removed so minimal traces are remaining. Surface, as you can see, has a firm color and smooth glaze surface. Only minimal scratches and tiny chips may be seen, but this is nothing for a more than 100 year old architectural piece.
