-STYLE: Art Nouveau -TECHNIQUE: Manufacture Dust pressed clay tile using a mould & horsehead press- then burned- Decoration Tube lining, raised lines that separate the different colours and also helps outline design (thin line of clay is piped to do this). -COLORS: 4 -FACTORY: Unknown – Not English, probably Belgium -DIMENSIONS: 6" x 6" -APROXIMATE DATE: ca 1900 Fabulous asymmetric design and perfect. Non-symmetrical art nouveau designs are one of the most difficult styles to master, the flow of leaves from bottom to left and one all of a sudden turns right. Fluency of lines are increased by the fact of the upper and bottom solid color areas that highlight the horizontal direction of composition. Very well painted. - CONDITION: This tile is in good condition, no flaws or repairs exist. Only minimal scratches. Cement on reverse was carefully removed so minimal traces are remaining. Surface, as you can see, has a firm color and smooth glaze surface. Only minimal scratches and tiny chips may be seen, but this is nothing for a more than 100 year old architectural piece.
