hhh German Art Nouveau ggg huge Classic Art Nouveau Wine hinged lidded Jug / Pitcher / prize tankard. The material is Britannia (pewter) silverplated. This jug is original from WMF (Württenbergsche Metallwarenfabrik) It is adorned with incredible decoration. Molded into the stein is an elaborate mythological scene, depicting cherubs, gods and goddesses draped in cloth in a forest. A cherub stands on top of the lid of the stein. The handle depicts the trunk of a tree, complete with branches and leaves. The stein sits upon a base of four legs made of grapes and leaves. Marks: WMF B condition: in perfect condition high 17" /43 cm x large 9"/23 cm WMF (WÜRTTEMBERGISCHE METALLWARENFABRIK) Founded 1880 by Daniel Straub and the brothers Schweizer. WMF was, around 1900, the world's largest producer of household metalware, mainly in the Art Nouveau / Jugendstil style. In their growing policy WMF acquired several companies such as AK & CIE (Albert Köhler und Cie), ORION, Orivit AG, Plewkiewetz&Co in Poland. In their own Art studio many famous artists and designers like Peter Behrens and Albin Müller worked for WMF and brought the company to world fame. WMF war bereits um 1900 der grösste Produzent für Haushalt Metallwaren mit einer klaren Ausrichtung auf den Jugendstil. Im Rahmen ihrer Expansionspolitik akquirierte WMF im Laufe der Jahre mehrer Firmen, unter anderem AK & Cie (Albert Köhler und Cie), ORION, Orivit AG, Plewkiewetz & Co in Polen. In ihrem eigenen Designstudio arbeiteten Designer wie Peter Behrens, Albin Müller und verhalfen WMF zu Weltruhm. Heute mehr denn je sind die Jugendstil Objekte von WMF von Sammlern und Jugendstilliebhaber gesucht.
