Description

THE BEST REPRODUCTIONS YOU'LL EVER FIND !!!! A bold statement for sure.. but true. We printed this guide in 1989 with the assistance of the two primary captains and divers of the "Atocha" recovery crew. This is the definitive guide to dating Spanish new world coins of this era. These coins are dated (primarily) by the grouping of symbols inside the frame of the "Hapsburg" crest, the details of which are clearly outlined in this guide. This is a fascinating time in spanish history with a remarkable dating system unique to these coins. This will assist in dating coins (Spanish/New World) from 1576 to 1733.I found (about) 50 copies in pristine (new) condition. They will be sold individually only. Sorry.. not cheap but going to press to do reprints would be far more expensive. We are also now selling individual coins of a single denomination. They will be as follows ; Eight reales (versions 1, 2 & 3) Four Reales (version 1 only), Two Reales (version 1 only) and One Reales (version 1 only). Pictures shown are of front and back of coins (obverse/reverse). I worked on the Atocha project in the mid eighties, Watched as ingots of silver and coins encased in sea life were brought into the Key West museum. This is the most famed of all SPANISH SHIPWRECKS, documented by National Geographic, full of the joy of discovery and the tragedy of death. This boat , The Nuestra Senora De Atocha, sank in 1622 with an estimated 200 million dollars in treasure. Mel Fisher, his family and assorted crew of experts and divers found the wreck in 1985. There has been a great amount of treasure recovered over all these years since but, as with most treasure, it remains in the hands of people of generous means. I wanted to share a bit of my experience with those who might not otherwise be able to access such rarities so I made precise molds of coins recovered from the Atocha, cast them in pewter and finished each to an authentic patina. The feel, look and weight is almost indiscernible from the original silver coins. Please be clear that these are reproductions, even experts will have to do a double-take when they first see these. These are nicely bagged and boxed for a gift for the collector, dreamer or the child fascinated with "Pirate Treasure". Please look into the National Geographic films for Atocha dvd's/ vhs tapes, Blockbuster might even have them, There are several great books on the subject as well. In particular, Duncan Mathewson's version is a great read. Enjoy. The listing price is for ONE coin. Five coins will get a 10% discount. 10 coins will get a 15% discount. 25 coins will get a 20% discount. Greater orders by quote only. If you want the coins individually bagged (1 coin/1 bag) add .50 to the cost per coin. Otherwise they will all come in one nice drawstring bag and box (our standard shipping procedure). These ship first class mail . The post office estimates delivery from 2 to 10 days. Believe it ! We have seen it go 10+ and sometimes get there the next day (?). If you have special shipping needs please let me know. If you want delivery confirmation there will be an additional charge, but again, let me know. Shipping is 2.50 for 1 coin,3.50 for 5 coins, 4.50 for 10 coins, 6.00 for 25 coins in the U.S.A. and Canada. Others by quote. Thank You for your enthusiastic response... More to come.
