A beautiful antique 1800s silver and rosewood veneer box with inlaid ivory. Wonderfully detailed scrimshaw etching of a masted tall ship showing lots of rigging and life boats, whaler in the chase of a large whale rising out of the ocean. Nice clean vivid line work and style. Beautiful color and patina to the rosewood and ivory. The top of the box is trimmed with sterling silver & escrutcheon. Handmade sterling hinges. Box is lined with a lighter wood. The bottom is covered with original dark green paper. Box is in excellent condition, no cracks, chips or scratches. No cracks or chips in ivory or sterling silver. 6 1/2" x 2 3/4" x 1 7/8" high. Would make a excellent Xmas gift for a box collector, scrimshaw collector or maritime artwork collector.
