BARRIEHODDER & STOUGHTON, LONDONFIRST U.K. EDITION, FIRST PRINTING, 1902This is a vintage copy of the first appearance of Peter Pan, by J.M. Barrie. It is the first published ENGLISH edition of this book, FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING. For being 106 years old it is in very good condition for it's age. There is only a tiny, minute amount of shelfwear at the top and bottom of the spine (really just bumped, or wrinkled at the extreme edge, if you can even call that shelfwear), the spine is slightly sunworn (browning from exposure to the sun), otherwise the covers are in excellent condition. The cover edges are beveled. The corners are straight and true. The endpapers are browning or foxing, The half title page and title page has a previous owners inscription as well as initials on the rfep pastedown, There is a tissue guarded map of Kensington Gardens opposite the title page which has caused a bit of foxing on the title page, otherwise the pages are clean, unsoiled and bright, and BEST OF ALL, Except for the aforementioned inscriptions, there is NO NONE NADA markings or writing in this book. The gutters are not cracked,  everything is firmly attached, nothing is loose or coming loose. The top page ends are in gold gilt. NO other dates or printings mentioned.8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Publishers original blue/black cloth with gilt lettering to spine. The story of Peter Pan originated in this book, And if you read the title page of the widely known "Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens" (with all the tipped in color plates) It says "From the Little White Bird". As acclaim for the Little White Bird and the idea of Peter Pan grew, Barrie further devoloped the idea into "Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens" which was published in 1906 with 50 color tipped in plates, in London by Hodder and Stoughton and simultaneously in New York by Charles Scribner's Sons. Barrie later further developed the story line in " Peter and Wendy", published in 1911 in London by Hodder and Stoughton and simultaneously in New York by Charles Scribner's Sons. These books laid the storyline foundation for all the plays, movies, cartoons, ect. that we have grown up with and loved, and Pan has become iconic in American culture.Copies of this book in lesser condition are selling elsewhere online for $300 to $800.This Book would make a fine adittion to any Barrie collection or library collection in general. It is in very fine, almost mint condition, which is getting very hard to find. It is an excellent investment as it will only keep appreciating in value, as the 1906 edition by Hodder & Stoughton has reached market values up to $60,000.This Book has NOT been rebound, is NOT ex-library and has NO remainder marks. This book was printed by Hodder & Stoughton, London, 1902. 1902 on the copyright page with no other date mentioned. It has blue- black buckram boards with gold gilt printing the spine. The top page edges are gold gilted. There is "The Child's Map of Kensington Gardens" Frontispiece, a full page B&W plate. This is a rare find in such excellent condition......Here is your chance to own an authentic piece of literary history at a reasonable price!!We package our books very carefully to ensure safe delivery.
